CREATIVE JAPAN launched a new version of ZEN portable media player Zen MX, which is less expensive and this model looks exactly like the Zen model launched in 2007. The difference lies under the hood. Zen MX model supports playback of MP3, WMA, Audible 4 audio formats, JPEG photos, and Creative’s own CMV video format. While it’s expensive predecessor model Zen is compatible with a wider range of file formats including MPEG4-SP3, DiVX3/4/5, GIF and WAV.

Two models ZN-ZMX8G-BK with 8 GB and ZN-ZMX16G-BK with 16 GB are available with 320×240 resolution 2.5-inch LCD resolution screen. This compact model weighs only 66g (sized at 83.2×55×11.9mm) and comes with SD/SDHC and USB interfaces. This player is compatible with Windows XP and Vista. This model can playback 30 hours of audio and 5 hours of video with each battery recharge. In addition, the ZEN MX has an FM radio tuner and voice recording functions.

CREATIVE is launching these models in Japan first from next month with a price tag of 9,800 yen ($102) for 8 GB version and 13,800 yen ($144) for 16GB model. CREATIVE has not yet announced when this model will be made available outside Japan.
