Safari browser on Mac can also be used to download YouTube videos.

Safari is the default browser in Mac and if you are using the both, then here is a simple trick to download the embedded videos from online streaming websites, including YouTube. There is no need to use third party tool in downloading the videos as well as pictures when following this trick. Following is the trick to download YouTube videos on Mac with Safari.

Launch Safari web browser and go to YouTube video and then go to the video which you want to download. After the video starts loading, go to Menu and select Window. In this list, select ‘Activity’. By selecting this option, a dialog box appears which lists out all the object requests on the page. Select the object which is more in sized, it may be in MB and can also be up to 100MB since it depends on the size of the video file.

By using double click on that object, Safari triggers to download it. After the completion of download, change the extension of the file to .flv. In the same way, one can also change the name of the file with their desired name and can use Finder for this purpose.

The downloaded video can be watched using VLC media player or using QuickTime player. For QuickTime player to play the video, it needs a free, open source component called Perian which helps in adding support to various popular video file formats.
