Andhra Pradesh takes the second position in India in cultivating the rice paddy. Rice paddy is yielded in almost 40 lakh hectors in our state.Every year 140 lakh tonnes of rice paddy is produced.From the rice paddy along with rice, if we can make several value added products we can obtain good profits in market.The value added produts like rice flakes, murmura, ready to eat rice crips, rice noodles, rice fider,rice beer and etc are always been in demand.

Rice Flakes

Rice paddy, sacked in water and dried, are mixed with sand and fried. Fried paddy is send through flaking machine to convert into pounded rice flakes. Then seperated into different grades using grading machine and packed. Usually, 65 kg rice flakes can be extracted from 100 kg rice.

We are using rice flakes as breakfast. Maharashtra, Northern, North Eastern states people also use it daily. In our state, rice flakes is frequently used in the preparation of mixer snacks, laddu etc. and are exported to Saudi Arabia, Gulf countries also.

Murmura:

Rice paddy sacked in boiling water are dried and the upper layer is removed from them. This rice paddy is mixed with sand and fried to prepare murmura, which is used as ready to eat time pass snacks. Other than this, along with fried ground nut and cashew nut, it is also used as snacks and along with coco powder and jaggery it is used to prepare laddus. These snacks are having good demand in small towns and villages.

Rice Snacks

Rice powder, oil and masala powder are mixed and processed through extruder machine to prepare ready to eat snacks, which is not only tasty but also easily digestible and hence is having much demand.

In our country, “Ready to eat” snacks market size is approximately 1350 crores. It is being increased by 20% every year. And rice powder and noodles prepared using rice powder are also having good demand in market.
