When compared to others, Indians are more prone to osteoporosis. Less availability of calcium and vitamin-D are the main reasons behind it. Every person should take 1200 to 1500mg of calcium for healthy bones. Calcium is also necessary for the functioning of heart muscles and nerves. Calcium is necessary in elderly ages to walk properly and for the muscles to be strong. For this, one needs to take milk and other dairy products daily. Also, leafy vegetables, fishes, groundnuts, finger millet and other food material that give salts are to be taken.

Calcium tablets are to be taken only if necessary. Fruits and vegetables that contain potassium and magnesium in addition to calcium are to be taken.

Vitamin – D and its importance

Importance of calcium is known in the bone formation. But many people forget about vitamin-D in this function. Vitamin D plays an important role in eradicating osteoporosis. Body gets necessary vitamin D by spending 90 minutes daily under morning sunrays.
