How to Signup with Facebook, Orkut, MySpace and Bebo
Facebook, Orkut, MySpace and Bebo are all social networking services which allow their users to connect with each other through virtual communities where all the members have something in common, such as interests, activities, workplaces, or schools and colleges. Each of these services has its own website. To use the facilities of any of these services, you have to navigate to its website from your browser and join. This guide will help you to get connected to social networks.
We shall see how to get started with Facebook as an example. In your browser, navigate to http://www.facebook.com/. If you have not signed up earlier, you need to sign up now.
Signing up for Facebook
In the area marked in red, fill in your full name, your email id, and a password. As you are creating your private space in a larger and very public space, you must try and choose a password that is at least 8 to 12 characters long, containing alphanumeric characters and one or two special characters. Choose the month, day, and year of your birth from the drop-downs and click the “Sign Up” button.
On the next screen you will see two randomly generated words as shown above. You have to type those words into the text box below. As the words are computer generated, you will see something different in your case. After you have filled in the words, click the “Sign Up” button.
On the next screen you will see a notice asking you to confirm your email id. Facebook sends an email to you with a confirmation link. You have to click that link to confirm that it was you who had signed up. Once you click the link a new window, as shown below, opens that will help you to get started.
Click “Next”.
On the following screen you have the option of filling out your region, educational and work information. Click “Next”.
You have to fill in your email password, and click the “Find Your Friends” button. If you wish, you can skip this step and go to the final one.
This is just a welcome screen that gives you some useful information.
If you have already signed up, then simply fill in your email and the password you chose when signing up in the text boxes at the top left of the starting screen as shown below, and click “Login”.
The procedure is similar in the cases of the other services, except that for Orkut you do not have to signup if you have a Gmail id. You can use that to sign in.
