How to Secure EXCEL data? | How to create password for my Excel sheets?

Excel is one of the package available in MS – Office suite designed by the Microsoft corporation used to maintain the data in terms of Accounting structures like Balance sheets, Reports and so on. Apart from EXCEL package this suite even contains some other packages Word which is used to maintain the data in the form of Letters or files. Power Point for the visual presentation of the speaker and so on.  This MS – Office has many versions like 97, 2000, XP and the latest version is MS – Office 2007.

We will call Excel file as a workbook which contains sheet where we can type and store the data.  Each sheet in excel contains rows and column format.  Each sheet contains 10,48,576 rows numbered from 1 to 10,48,576 and 16,384 columns named with English alphabets A..Z, AA… XFD (According the MS-Office 2007), and we can given separate names for each sheet.

In order to provide the security to the date stored in Excel, one can give the password to that sheet so that only the user who know the password can open that and other cannot. In order to give a password to a particular workbook one has to save it first. And then click on the Options button which is available in Menu bar.

A sub menu appears with many options among them required for our task is Security. Click on that a options a windows opens which contains two text boxes. Type the password which user has to give for Opening and Modifying the work book.  Retype the same password which is typed in the First box as a confirmation password and  press OK button.

With that the password is created.  So from that time onwards when ever one wants to open that workbook then he must type the given password then only it opens other wise it won’t opens. Resultant is that only the authorized persons who know this password can open this workbook for reading and modifications and the unauthorized persons cannot opens this.
