* Muscles become strong with regular exercises. Exercises help in maintaining the balancing capacity of the body. If there is no adequate exercise, body will loose the ability to balance. It is better to know from family doctor about the exercises to be done according to the health condition.
* It happens many times that we take medicines for small cough, cold and other small problems without consulting a doctor. These medicines should be shown to the family physician and the necessary suggestions should be taken. There is a possibility of side effects like over sleep, giddiness, weakness, etc, with some of the medicines. When you take new medicines, you may feel giddiness within 48 hours. They may result in the imbalance of the body.
* Consult for checking eye sight at least once a year. Spectacles used before may not be of much use if there is a change in eye sight. There is a chance of glycoma, cataract in the old age. In this case, dim light becomes dangerous. In that case, there is risk of falling down due to low vision. There will be more chances of fracture if you neglect eye sight problem.
* Along with all these, explain in detail the risks of falling down to the old aged people. And tell clearly the necessary precautions to be taken to avoid these situations.
* If accidentally fallen also, there is a chance of escaping a fracture because of strong bones. Balance diet plays a vital role in this aspect. Food with more Calcium and Vitamin-D should be taken.

* There should be extra care taken even from arranging the furniture to selection of flooring. Smooth finishing will surely increase the risks of fracture. Extra care should be taken in selecting the tiles in bathroom and non slip mats should be arranged in toilets.
* Sofas and tables should be cleared from the place where elderly people regularly walk. It is better to arrange support while using the stair case. So step bars near steps, holding rail in the toilet should be arranged.
* Bulbs with more light must be used instead of those which give dim light.
* For walking within the house and outside the house also, non slippery shoes are to be used instead of slippers.
* Specially designed undergarments that don’t cause damage even if fallen down are available in the market. They prevent the effect falling on the bone by being attached like a cushion.
