Disk Cleanup
To maintain good performance of a personal computer various actions are to be taken.Due to the day to day use of the computer various types of file searches are done, new materials are loaded . These materials over a period of time loses the importance. To do away wih the unnecessary items and to free up the disk space for fresh important materials , it is required to perform a disk cleaning. The disk cleanup mechanism is one such technique to keep up the good performance of a PC.
The disk cleanup facility comes in handy with the Microsoft Windows package. It is a cleaning mechanism by means of which the hard disk of the computer is checked and freed of the unnecessary elements stored in them, thus creating space for new and important files and folders. The disk cleanup first searches for and identifies the files in the hard drive which are of new use anymore. To perform this initial checking, the disk cleanup checks the temporary internet files, the recycle bin, the old compressed files, offline files , set up log files, program files, etc. The analyses of the different files also depend on the configuration of a particular computer. Sometimes some other types of file elements like the Temporary Remote Desktop files or Temporary Sync files also comes under scrutiny. Once the scrutiny is over, the Disk Cleanup provides the user with the review facility. That is once the files are analysed and selected , the consent of the user is taken about whether the files should be deleted or removed. If the user is not sure with what to do with a particular category of files , then he/she can see the details of the file using the view file option and then decide on what to be done.
Beside the facility of identification of the unnecessary or unused files and their removal from the system , other facilities like compression facilities are also provided by the Disk Cleanup program. The files that are not used very frequently , those files can be kept compressed in the hard drive, so that when they are required they can be accessed. While, more amount of space is kept free for the frequently used files. The frequently used files are kept uncompressed for faster access. The compressed files which are occasionally used, takes a faster time to read or write. The access for the compressed files varies from system to system.
