With the increasing popularity of the digital cameras , digital photo printing has also gained edge over the years. The digital printers convert the marvelously coloured digital photographs into good quality photo prints. The digital photo printers are available in various shapes and sizes. These printers generally use two types of printing technologies ,one is the dye sublimation technology and the other one is the inkjet technology. The dye sublimation technique allows deposition of dye on the sheets of paper that are used fro photo printing. The dye deposition is formed by the vaporization of the solid dye on the application of heat. In the vapourised form the dye percolates through the surface of the paper creating smooth patterns on the paper, before coming to solid form. A protective coating is then applied on the printed form of the photograph in order to protect it from fading, and the distortion of the same from moisture or from fingerprints. In an inkjet mechanism, the image of the photograph is painted onto the photo paper. This imaging is done by making a number of dots on the photo paper. The dots are made by using ink from a number of small cartridges. These printers are much more popular as they can be obtained at cheaper price than that of the dye sublimation printer. Moreover, another reason for the popularity of inkjet printer is due its ability to print photo of various sizes. For occasional photography, the dye sublimation printer can be used but for professional photo printing or frequent photo printing, an inkjet printer is a better choice. The clarity of the print increases with increased resolution. The portability of a digital camera is also very important. Some of the printers can work with optional batteries, such type of printers can be easily carried to any trip somewhere. The editing capability of a printer is another important character. The printing spped offered by a particular printer is very important. Other features like the size of the prints available , the cost of paper and ink etc are also to be taken care off. The dye sublimation printer generally requires paper of special quality. Tremendous level of colour accuracy can be obtained by the dye sublimation printers.
