Diet for diabetes people | Food to be taken by diabetes patients to keep sugar levels in the blood under control

India has highest number of diabetic patients. Main reason behind this condition is unhealthy and undesirable changes in life style. Once affected, diabetes will not leave a person. But it can be kept in control by three aspects – medicines, exercises and food. By following necessary care in these aspects, one can live healthy as like others. Energy is required to do daily routine. It comes from food we take. There is a system in our body which makes use of food taken to convert it into energy when required and also to store it in the body for future use. Insulin hormone will be useful in storing the food in our body when there is no need for energy. Glucagon is another hormone that helps in extracting energy from the stored food material when there is need for energy in the body. When energy is required, insulin level decrease and glucagon levels will increase. Glucagon not only converts glucose in to energy but also can produce glucose if necessary. In normal conditions, glucagon and insulin will work in accordance with each other. But when the production of insulin hormone decreases or when it doesn’t function properly, sugars and glucose levels will be remain in blood only. It is not dangerous if glucose is present in blood but it will affect the eyes, heart, blood vessels, nerves and kidneys if it continues for longer periods. This condition of presence of sugar levels in the blood for longer periods is called as diabetes. Hence, medicines, exercises and food are to be used to keep the sugar levels under control in blood.
