Laws which supports consumers
The Government has specially taken care to given the information about the rights of the consumers. Two Information centers are started in Hyderabad district specifically for this purpose working under the Department of Civil supplies. One is available in the premises of Hyderabad district collector ate and another one is at Padmarao nagar, Secunderbad. These offices are functioning under the keen observation of the Twin cities chief rationing officer.
Various Consumer laws
Indian penal code 1860
The shop keepers who are doing malpractice in weighing of consumer goods and the shop keepers who are selling the foods and drinks which harm the human body and the people who are manufacturing the items with branded logos will be punished under this section.
Sale of Goods Act 1930
The buyer has to sell the goods with warranty. If the buyer sold the good without following the standards then he will be punished with this act. The punishment is penalty and may be imprisoned.
Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940
This act is framed to control the buying and selling of drugs and cosmetic goods. The sale and purchases related to drugs and cosmetic good should be done under this act only.
Drugs and Music Remedies Act 1954
This act will give the confidence to the public that the actions will be taken on those who perform dangerous activities.
Food poisoning and control act 1954
This act was amended in the year 1985 for the people those who try to spoil the food product by processing for a long time will be punishable.
Civil supplies act 1955
The consumers those who store the basic needs illegally or selling the goods more than MRP or transferring the goods to the black market are punishable under this act.
MRP Act 1969
This act was framed for those consumers who are doing their business with fake advertisement, wrong information are punishable.
Hire purchase act 1972
Those who are selling the items, furniture in installments has to charge the interest as per the standards and prices.
The standards of Weights and measures act 1976
This act is designed for the proper maintenance of goods details on the packet which is packed. The details like MRP, Date of Manufacturing, Quantity, Date of Expiry etc.
Bureau Indian Standards Act 1986
This is designed to order the consumers that everyone has to follow the standards given by the Indian Bureau of Standards
Environmental Protection Act 1986
if there is any harm to the environment then he had right to complaint under this act and if the action is not taken in 60 days the same person has right to complain for the delay of action. If anyone violate this act then he is punishable and may be imprisoned
Railway claims tribunal 1987
Complaints regarding the train journey and the problems raised during transportation can be solved under this act.
The cable television network (Regulation) Act 1995
This act amended in the year 2004 and says that if any cable operator who is offering cable television network violates the rules and do not follow the necessary steps are punishable under this act.
Information technology act 2000
This act is applicable for those who try to forgery the advanced technological knowledge are punishable under this act.
Indian electricity act 2003
This act is use full to the electrical consumers. The issues like problems in power supply, generating bills, transmission faults are included in this act.
