Maida or all purpose flour – 200 grams
Eggs – 4
Milk – 1 cup
Yeast- 1 tsp
Sugar – 4 tsp
Butter – 100 grams
Whipped Cream – 200 grams
Mixed Fruits – ½ cup
Sugar Syrup – ½ litre
Vanilla Essence – 4 tsp

Method of Preparation:

Take all purpose flour (Maida) in a vessel. Add Milk, Sugar, and Yeast to it and ferment it for about half an hour. After it gets fermented, mix the beaten eggs very well and add melted butter to it, soak and keep it aside.

Grease with butter to the rounded mould or cake tin and sprinkle the flour on it. Now pour the batter in it and bake the oven at 200 degrees temperature for about 30 minutes.

Once it gets cooled, add vanilla essence in the sugar syrup and pour it on the cake. Garnish the cake with whipped cream and mixed fruits. Refrigerate it and serve cold.

‘Modak’ is a very popular recipe of Maharashtra and it is a special Indian sweet dish prepared there especially during Ganesh Chaturthi.

Usually, Modaks are fried in oil, but you can also even steam the flour dumplings i.e., filled with jaggery and coconut mixture rather than frying them which are healthier.

Filling can also be customized by replacing jaggery with sugar along with add-on dry fruits like cashews and raisins which   looks great.

Ingredients:

Paneer- 400 grams

Sugar powder – 200 grams

Cardamom pods – 1tsp

Coconuts – 2

Jaggery – 600 grams

Ghee – 1tbsp

Method of Preparation:

Grate the coconut and fry it in ghee in a saucepan. Add the grated jaggery to it and allow it to boil for sometime till the mixture gets thick.

Sprinkle cardamom powder in it and allow it to cool for sometime. Make the mixture into small balls. Now take a slab of paneer, grate it and knead the dough. Also add sugar to it and make it like a small (chapathi) balls.

Fill the coconut ball in it and close the edges of the chapathi (ball) and mould it like the way onion look. Steam the onion shaped balls in a pressure cooker and ‘Paneer Coconut Modaks’ are ready to serve hot.

Bottle Gourd – 1
Milk – 1 litre
Rice flour- 1 cup
Sugar-2 cups
Cardamom powder-2 tsp
Almonds-1/2 cup

Method of Preparation:

Discard the seeds and peel the skin of the bottle gourd. Grate it, pour the water till it is soaked completely and keep it aside for 10 minutes. Then add water and allow it to boil for few minutes. Also add milk, sugar to it and stir it occasionally. Let it boil for some more time.

After the grated gourd gets boiled, add rice flour to it, keep stirring until it is soft (without forming any lumps) and allow it to boil for 10 more minutes. Finally, add cardamom powder in it and allow it to cool for sometime.

Refrigerate it and after a while, pour the mixture in a serving bowl and garnish it with cut almonds. Serve the guests cold.

Two new researches have been made that traditional Chinese herbal medicine might mitigate eczema in children and adults. Other study says that toddlers who have egg, elm or cat allergies are at increased high level of risk of developing eczema by age 4 years and children whose parents have eczema are also at risk.

Chinese Herbal Medicine, safe and effective for children with Eczema

Julia Wisiniewski, MD, a researcher of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York suggests the alternative skin condition treatments as many patients continue to suffer from severe allergies from decades even after using steroids and antibiotics.

Studies reveal that 14 children were treated with the conventional Chinese medicine known as Erka Shizheng Herbal Tea at Ming Qi Natural Health Center in Manhattan between Aug’2006 – May’ 2008. All the children had Herbal Tea twice a day; spend 20 minutes daily for herbal bath along with the application of herbal cream to the skin 2-3 times a day. They had undergone acupuncture therapy and most of them had very mild symptoms after eight months of treatment.

Wisniewski says “Chinese herbal treatments proved safe and secure without any abnormalities in liver and kidney function, which is an alternative therapy for children”.

Chinese Herbal Medicine Also Helps Adults With Eczema

Japanese researchers have studied 274 men and women who had suffered from eczema for an average of 12 years and found nearly one-third of them had severe allergic conditions.

Yoshiteru Shimoide, MD, head of the Yoshiteru Shimoide Clinic of Internal Medicine in Kagoshima City says “Chinese herbal remedies were chosen for excellence and implemented according to the sufferer’s symptoms – an approach known as Sho in oriental medicine”. Chicago researchers have observed certain ways in AACR 100^th Annual meeting to make use of the fruit’s medication. Dr. Ezra Cohen, MD, a cancer specialist at the Chicago university medical center reveals that the grape juice can increase the blood levels of particular drugs 3-5 times. According to him, the clinical research was made to test “whether this could be used to amplify the drug’s availability to the patient, to decide how much quantity of juice alters the drug levels and to analyze its impact on anti-cancer effects”.

Research has been found 28 patients with advanced solid tumors for which there is no efficient treatment. The drug dosage has been increased from 15 milligrams to 35 milligrams with each group of 5 patients. Once a week, patients take the drug as a liquid. In the beginning of the second week, they took a glass (eight ounces) of grape juice immediately after taking the drug and once a day for the rest of the week.

Out of 25%, 7 of the patients had stable condition with little or no tumor growth. One among them had a partial response with the tumor.
