Advanced Diabetes Treatments (Sensitizers, GLP-1, DPP-4 Inhibitors, New Insulins)
There are many experiments and researches going on about diabetes. There came a lot of change in our attitude about diabetes. Even though it is not possible to cure diabetes, there has come a lot of advancement in controlling it. In this regard many medicines have come up in these days.

Sensitizers:
Insulin treatment and medicines to improve the production of insulin came into availability even before 20 years. Now a days, medicines have come that increase the efficiency of the insulin produced in the body. These are called insulin sensitizers. Generally, insulin resistance, a condition where insulin produced doesn’t work, is arised. These sensitizers work effectively in that condition. Metaformin, Pioglitazone are the medicines that belong to this class. Not only these, medicines have come up which obstruct the glucose present in the food we take, to enter into our body. Medicines like acarbose, voglibose taken after meals will restrict the increase of glucose.

GLP-1
Four years back, a group of medicines called GLP-1 have come. As a part of it, medicines like incretins are created. This however increases the production of insulin to some extent. More over they work more effectively on glucagone enzyme which will affect insulin. These will increase the insulin and reduce glucose. These GLP medicines are also available in injection form. These are to be taken twice a day. These medicines will not have any side effects like of tablets. Because of these tablets the levels of glucose in the body will suddenly come down. It sometimes lead to death also. But by these injections the glucose levels will not fall down. These will work only when the glucose levels in the body are high. They automatically stop working when the glucose levels come to normal.

DPP-4 Inhibitors
There are juices like GLP-1 that increase the production of insulin. They get damaged due to an enzyme called DPP-4. The DPP-4 Inhibitor medicines will prevent the effect of that enzyme. As a result there will be an increase of GLP-1 juices. DPP-4 medicines are available in tablet form. Though they don’t decrease the body weight they don’t increase also. There are two types of medicines belonging to this group named as sitagliptin, vildagliptin.

New Insulins…
Insulins are being used from a long time. But their effectiveness is not consistent. Insulins designed for a short term use were effective for even a very short period. Those designed for long term were effective for even more long period. Presently latest insulins are working for 24 hours exactly. Only one injection is enough. Short term insulins work only for 3-4 hours immediately after injecting. These are called friendly insulins because there are not much problems with them. Along with these diet care should be taken and also regular exercise should be done. Only then diabetes can be effectively controlled.
